Drisha summer workshop
November 1st, 2008
In June 2008, Drishya, An education movement empowering poor children from slums and urban poor communities conducted a series of month long workshops in collaboration with Srishti School of Art, Design & Technology, Bangalore.
Raghu Rao, Roshan Sahi and myself conducted a drawing and print workshop with 15 Drishya students aged 9-14. The workshop took nature and the environment as the thematic base for exercises to improve observational drawing skills as well as develop a more expressive response to nature. Social comment and narrative illustration were also explored in this context. The drawings created during the morning exercises were then transferred and applied to various print techniques during each afternoon session.
Images produced during the workshop are to be curated and silkscreen printed for a Drishya calendar, 2009. Available in December. The funds raised from the sale of these calendars will benefit the children directly.
More photos from the workshop can be seen here.
